ABOUT

Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement is to bring the people of the Amesbury area to a lifelong knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Amesbury Baptist Church has a mixed congregation which varies from week-to-week, month-to-month and throughout the years due to the demography of the local population. The area around the church includes many military bases, such as those at Boscombe Down, Bulford, Larkhill and Tidworth.  Military personnel and their families often come along for a few years and then are posted to another location, sometimes returning to the area again during their military career. The congregation usually includes people from many age groups, originating from many different parts of the country and the world with varying backgrounds, coming together with the one purpose of worshipping God. Everyone is welcome to come along to the church, just turn up on a Sunday or to one of our other activities.  If you are new to church and have questions about what goes on please have a look at our First Time section or contact us.As well as meeting for worship on Sundays, there are further opportunities to learn more about God in regular activities such as home groups and prayer groups. Events for the entire church congregation or sections of it are arranged throughout the year – please see activities, forthcoming events or recent events to get an idea of what’s on offer.

Core Values

We believe we are here to welcome anyone into our church family, where we will love, learn and laugh together while building each other up in the faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We believe in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with anyone who lives in and around Amesbury, especially Boscombe Down, Archers Gate, King’s Gate and the surrounding area.

We believe that we can grow to spiritual maturity by engaging with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through prayer, Bible studies, home groups, regular church appearance and attending external Christian events.

We believe that everyone has a God-given gift to be discovered and used for active service within our community.

We believe in a place where the hurting, the depressed, the frustrated, the lonely and confused can find love, acceptance, help, hope, forgiveness, guidance and encouragement.

We believe at Amesbury Baptist Church that everyone is important and loved by God and it is our heartfelt desire to honour these principles too.

History

Amesbury Baptist Church began when four couples (two civilian and two military) started meeting as a home group in Amesbury in January 1991 having had a vision of founding a church in the area. On 3 March 1991, the first service was held in Redworth House Council offices in Amesbury and then on 24 March 1991, 27 people became members at the Covenant of Membership service. Larger premises were soon needed due to the numbers of people coming along, so services were then held in The Stonehenge School from 1991 to 1997. In March 1994, planning permission was obtained for a new building, which was to become the home of Amesbury Baptist Church and offer rooms for hire to the community.  The Amesbury Fellowship raised a staggering £100,000 towards the building. The current building opened in 1997 and continues to offer space for worship and fellowship.
